Thanks for the info. But defence scams at the cost of the soldiers started in Nehru's time itself. It was the Jeep scam and T T Krishnamachari had to resign but was later taken back by nehru. And there has been no let up on treacherous politicians and bureaucrats making money at the cost of national security and fighting capability of the armed forces.

Subject: Copter Deal
To: newsroom@timesnow.comYesterday I watched the debate on 'Times Now' regarding kick-backs in the Helicopter Deal with an Italian Company. Majority of the Retd. Army and Air Force personnel were saying that the original specification might have been altered to ensure more transparency because initially they got only one tender. But it is revealed that there are three countries manufacturing helicopter capable of flying more than 18000 feet high with similar specification and passenger capacity. Details are given below and all the details are available on the internet. The original specification was suitable for evacuation and transportation of military personnel from Kargil and Siachen during the war. Moreover, the original proposal might have been made after Kargil war in 1999. At that time our indigenously- developed Dhruva which can also fly at a height of 20000 feet was not there. The Dhruva entered into service in 2002. So if the Govt. wanted, it could have purchased Dhruva and saved Foreign exchange . Even Israel has purchased Dhruva. Majority of Defence Deal Scams started during Rajiv Gandhi's period, when the Western lobby become powerful and India turned to the West for defence equipments and subsequently scams also increased. By cancelling this Deal , our country 's security will not be jeopardized as we have Dhruva, the production of which should be increased.

Westland helicopter scam
The Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi forced the public sector Pawan Hans Corporation to buy 21 helicopters from a British company that was shutting down. A series of technical faults and crashes followed. The helicopters were eventually discarded as junk and lined up at an unused airport in Mumbai.
